Ian Aikenhead, Q.C.* was called to the Bar of BC in 1976 and has practiced with this firm since 1977. Mr. Aikenhead is the head of the litigation section of the law firm, and has practiced as a litigation and personal injury lawyer his entire career. Ian’s particular areas of interest and expertise are ICBC claims, personal injury claims, estate litigation and other litigated claims.
Mr. Aikenhead was designated Queen’s Counsel in 1997, a recognition provided by a joint committee of the Chief Justice of the Province, the Law Society, the Canadian Bar Association and others. Ian has been an Executive Member of the Trial Lawyers’ Association of British Columbia, a member of the Law Society Committee to redraft the Legal Professions Act, the Law Society Communications Committee, a course coordinator for the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC on Mild Traumatic Brain Injury, and a member of many Canadian Bar Association subsections.
Ian has been a lecturer on many occasions to many community and legal organizations.
Mr. Aikenhead has been for many years the author of the Legislative Watch, a regular article on new legislation, for the Verdict magazine. He has also been the author of the chapter on Damages in the Motor Vehicle Claims Manual, a reference manual for all trial lawyers.
Ian was the president of the Lawyers Assistance Program, and an active volunteer with that organization. Ian was the president of the Pacific National Exhibition for over 8 years, was the president of the Britannia Community Services Society, was an Executive Member of the REACH Health Clinic, and was the President of the BC NDP from 1989-1992.
Ian is grateful to be a trial lawyer, living and working in the East End of Vancouver, and helping clients deal with their ICBC claims and other legal issues.
